The last time when both sides met Mumbai Indians lost by small margin of 6 runs in one of the more thrilling encounters of the IPL. Chennai at that stage were at top of the table and were going strong whereas Mumbai was struggling and were missing Sachin.

SERIAL Bomb Blasts in Jaipur: What is happening

New Delhi: A series of bombs exploded across the ancient city of Jaipur on Tuesday, killing at least 80 people and transforming busy markets, a jewellery bazaar and a Hindu temple into scenes of carnage.

All seven blasts were within the old walls of the western city known for its pink-hued palaces, and suspicion quickly fell on Islamic militant groups blamed for a string of attacks in India in recent years. Police said an eighth bomb was found and defused by police.

"Obviously, it's a terrorist" attack, said A S Gill, the police chief of Rajasthan, the state where Jaipur is located. "The way it has been done, the attempt was to cause the maximum damage to human life."

The explosions began around 7.30 pm. One went off at a market near a temple dedicated to the Hindu monkey god Hanuman. Tuesday is the day of worship set aside for Hanuman, and the temple was crowded with people offering prayers on the way home from work.

Another bomb detonated near the Johari Bazaar, the city's jewellery market that is a popular destination for tourists. The tourist season ended in March, however, and there were no immediate indication that foreigners had been caught in any of the explosions.

Parikshit Bhandari, who saw the attack near the jewellery market, said there was "blood all around and wounded people crawling on the ground."

Bombing sites were littered with dropped shopping bags, mangled bicycles, damaged cars and overturned bicycle rickshaws, the most popular mode of transport in the crowded lanes of Jaipur.

Police said on Wednesday that several people had died from their wounds in hospitals overnight, pushing the death toll from 60 to 80. The number of wounded also increased to about 200 from 150, after officials developed a better picture of carnage.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack, as is the case with most bombings in India. But within hours of the blasts, authorities were suggesting that blame would eventually fall on Pakistan and the Islamic militant groups that India accuses its neighbour of backing.

"One can't rule out the involvement of a foreign power," said Union minister of satte fro home, Sriprakash Jaiswal, using language commonly understood to refer to Pakistan.

Jaiswal refused to say if he was talking about Pakistan. But he suggested the bombings were connected to previous attacks on India, saying that "the blasts are part of a big conspiracy."

Indian authorities have blamed Pakistan-based Islamic extremist groups for a spate of bombings that have killed nearly 400 people in this predominantly Hindu country of 1.1 billion people since 2005. Pakistan, an overwhelmingly Muslim country, denies any role in the bombings.

The attacks have run the gamut from July 2006 train bombings that killed nearly 200 people in Mumbai, India's financial centre, to small blasts like the one that struck a Muslim shrine in Rajasthan last year, killing two people.

Each new bombing has brought fears of a fresh outbreak of the violence between Hindus and Muslims that has sporadically bled India throughout its history, and authorities appealed for calm after Tuesday's attack.

Authorities quickly ordered alerts in New Delhi, Mumbai and several other cities. Security was also stepped up at airports and railway stations across the country.

In Washington, the US government condemned the attack. "The United States stands with the government and people of India in their ongoing fight to eliminate the scourge terrorism," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.

Jaipur is one of the major attractions in Rajasthan, a desert region dotted with palaces and temples that draw hundreds of thousands of Indians and foreigners every year, from bargain-hunting backpackers to celebrities like Mick Jagger.

While no foreigners appeared to have been caught in Tuesday's attack, it caused worries in the tourism business.

"We are all nervous. We don't want Jaipur's economy to go down," said Manoj Sharma, a New Delhi travel agent.

Still, he said, it will be months before temperatures in Rajasthan dip below 100 degrees and the high season for tourists begins. By then, he hopes, fears will have faded.

Master Blaster Sachin likely to play against super kings

Mumbai: Sachin Tendulkar, who is yet to play his first ball in the Indian Premier League, could feature in the crucial next tie against Chennai, Mumbai Indians coach Lalchand Rajput said today.

"Sachin has been batting for the last two days during practice and we are hoping that he will be playing the next match," Rajput said,

A groin injury has kept Tendulkar out of the IPL so far but the batsman has been practising with the team during the last two practice sessions.

Rajput said the presence of Tendulkar in the team would lift the morale of the side ahead of crucial game.

Tendulkar, if fit ahead of the match on May 14 is also likely to take over as captain, with South African Shaun Pollock stepping aside. "Pollock's contribution to the team has been immense but when Sachin comes everyone will revolve around him," Rajput said.
Tendulkar is likely to open the innings with Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya.

Mumbai have won three matches out of seven so far and are placed in the bottom half of the team standings with seven games to go.

Synopsis

The movie revolves around Jamal (played by Salim), a 10 year old PakistaniMuslim boy. While playing cricket near the Indo Pakistani border, the cricket ball is tossed over to the Indian side of the border separated by a fence.
Jamal crosses the fence to fetch the ball. He is however spotted by the Indian security forces and shot at. He hides in an Indian village where he is provided shelter by Bhola (Sushil Sharma), a devout HinduBrahmin. Both Bhola and his niece, Rani (Megnaa Mehtta), are skeptical about allowing a Muslim boy in their home.
However, when the security forces come looking for Jamal in the village, he is protected by Bhola and Rani.
Jamal does manage to return to Pakistan in the end.

Awards

Since its world premiere in September 2004, the film has been invited to 103 film festivals and has won awards in fourteen of them. Chief among them was the nomination for Academy Awards, USA in the Best Live action short films category. It was also nominated for the best short film award in the European Film Awards.
It went on to win the audience award in the Almer?a International Short Film Festival, the UIP Ghent Award for European Short Films in the Flanders International Film Festival, the grand prize in the Manhattan Short Films festival and the first prize in the Short Films category in the Montr?al World Film Festival.
The movie was officially mentioned and selected in various other competitions. It also won an honourable mention by BAFTA LA. It is the first Indian short film to get a theatrical release in India.

Review

Story

Kranti (NTR) is an orphan who attracts the attention of the local don Seshu (Asish Vidyardhi) who in turn reports to the kingpin PR (Prakash Raj) who is based in Hong Kong. Kranti attracts the attention of PR in no time and climbs up the ladder. Then they fall out due to some differences. Later it is revealed that Kranti is not an orphan, but the son of PR himself. The rest of the story is all about whether Kranti reconciles with his father or takes revenge on him.

Artists Performance

NTR: NTR is looking ultra glamorous with light beard in the film. NTR is superb in the role of Kantri. He dances exceptionally well in all the songs and his steps in Vayassunami and I go crazy songs are awesome. His dialogue delivery in the film has the perfect mix of mass and class orientation. He could perform the stunts stylishly due to agile body.

Others: Hansika is cute and sexy as the female lead. But she needs work on expressions in certain scenes. Tanishaa comes in the second half and has a limited role to play. Prakash Raj looks fresh with a new hair-do. Kota is entertaining as the father. The comedy done by Ali and Krishna Bhagawan does stand out. Asish Vidyardhi, Murali Sharma, Sayaji Shinde, Subbaraju are adequate. Sunil and Brahmanandam have separate comedy tracks.

Technical Departments:

Story - screenplay - direction: The story of the film has the shades of Pokiri in the mafia aspect. But there is a nice twist in the film that is revealed towards climax. Direction of the film by Mehar Ramesh is good in parts. He could able to stuff all elements in the first half and could narrate it in a crisp way. The aggression of hero shown in Hong Kong episodes is conceived well. But the tempo goes down in the second half as there is no conflict angle in the film once father and son unite. The screenplay in the second half would have been better. And the climax of the film appears dragged once the main twist of the film is revealed. On a whole, Mehar Ramesh holds promise to become a good director if he works on the holistic perspective of the script.

Dialogues: Dialogues are neat. There are sharp one-liners like – ‘Nenu taggindi weight. Head weight kaadu’, ‘slim aina slum kurradi laga vunnadu’, “idi zoo. Lopala kellandi. Janthuvulaki manchi timepass avutundi’ etc. There is also a dialogue that goes like ‘ee state lo rakta sambandham lekunda andaru anna ani pilichevaadu okkade. Aayana swargamlo vunnaru. Tarvatha anna ani pilipinchukune vaadu inka ikkada puttaledu.’ There are a couple of dialogues referring to Cycle too.

Other departments: Music by Mani Sharma is good. All the songs are well choreographed. 123 Kantri, Vayassunami and I go crazy are treat to eyes with NTR making very difficult steps appear so easy. Fights composed are good (especially the ones shot in Hong Kong). Cinematography by Samir Reddy is an asset. Editing is neat. Special effects done for this film are good. Having a 3-d animated character developed using motion capture on NTR done by Pixelloid is a unique and an appreciable experiment. Production values by Vyjayanthi banner are grand.

Analysis: The first half of the film is good. The tempo goes down in the second half. The twist towards climax is interesting. But the fights that follow appear extended. The plus points of the film are NTR’s energizing performance (dialogues, dances and emotions) and the first half. On the flip side, the conflict aspect in the second half should have been taken care of. We have to wait and see how NTR is going to unleash his mass magnetic power on the movie lovers with this commercial flick this summer!

Raj Kapoor Must be Turning in His Grave

A few days back I wrote the review of Tashan. I mentioned that how Kareena Kapoor is looking so hot in this movie. My husband read the review and laughingly said that Raj Kapoor must be turning in his grave if he could see his grand daughter in bikini.

Kareena in Bikini - The best bloopers are a click awayRaj Kapoor was the greatest showman of Indian film industry. But he also liked to show off the skin off her female leads. Rememeber Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Mera naam Joker and Raam teri Ganga Meli? I wonder Dawood Ibrahim got hooked on those bare breasts of Mandakini when he saw her bathing under a Jharna in RTGM.he he he he. Just kidding. But it is really ironical that Raj Kapoor encouraged his heroin to expose, didn't allow his family's females to work in movies and now his own grand daughter is making news with her bare body and bikini shots.

My analysis: Kantri is a superb movie with all the needed mass masala in it. Ntr is back in the big league with this movie. He is for sure the next star of Tollywood. Ntr is the life of Kantri. Meher Ramesh scripted a story which can only be done by Ntr and no one else. The story though predictable, becomes good because of the sudden twist in the climax.

Performances: Slim and trim Ntr did a splendid performance in this movie. His action, dance, fights everything is a highlight in this movie. Ntr is much better than his earlier movies in emotion and dance sequences. He has showed his real talent in the dance sequences. He takes the whole movie to success solely on his shoulders.

Hansika Motwani and Tanisha add glamour quotient to the film. They both are hot and good looking.

Prakash Raj did a good performance as the bad mafia don who gives value to only money and not to relationships.

Asish Vidhyarthi, Ajay Sharma and Shyyaji Shinde are other villans who are adequte in their roles.

Comedy part by Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivas Rao and Ali is good. Sunil and MS Narayana is not upto the mark.

Mukesh Rishi and Subba Raju varietily did good man roles in Kantri. Subba Raju excelled in his role.

Music by Mani Sharma already recieved good reviews even before the release of the movie and is now superb after the release. The songs are shot in excellent out door and in door locations. Ntr gave life to the songs and their music with his excellent dance performances. “I go crazy” is the highlight of the movie because of his steps and Bharatanatyam bit. “123 neno Kantri ” and “Vyasunami” songs are also good.

Fights by Stun Shiva are just upto the mark. If they were choreographed for any other movie then they would have been bad. But, because the fights had Ntr they are good. He made them good with his action packed emotions.

Story by Meher Ramesh is good mainly the twist he has given just before the climax makes the movie a super hit.

Played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 8 May 2008 - day/night (20-over match).

The rain Interrupted match which in last moments turned out to be a thrilling one and it looked like going any side. But sensible bowling by Ishant Sharma assured that Kolkata Knight Rider gets a clinching win . In Last over Bangalore needed 19 from 6 balls which can be get able but Ishant Sharma superb bowling made it assured that Bangalore wont get it and Kolkata win by 5 runs . This is there 1st win after losing three matches in a row.

After Rain interrupted the match,the match got reduced to 16 over per side . Winning the toss ,Ganguly elected to bat first . Losing wickets at regular intervals put Kolkata Knight Riders in check and only allowed them to score 129 for 7 in 16 overs. DJ Hussey was the highest scorer from Kolkata side . He made 26 from 15 balls ,there was some small but valuable performances by WP Saha and M Kartik in end overs. DW Steyn was the main bowler from Bangalore side who not only was economical but also took 3 wickets from his 4 overs.

In reply Bangalore start was also not good and lost their first wicket soon. Due to this Bangalore played a bit slow and it looked like that Kolkata will get a good win. But a blasting innings by Cameron White and Mark Boucher in ends over made the match got to last over. mark Boucher made a superb fifty but his fifty got in vain as they fall short of target . Kolkata only manage to get 124/4 in 16 overs. Kolkat not only bowled superbly but they fielded well.
